ROBOZOIC

July 13, 2005 By Brett Doar

Robozoic is a collection of simple automatic creatures, which ambulate across a surface with the aid of solenoids. They have a very rudimentary system that activates the solenoids, which consists of a rotating cylinder with pins stuck in it. As the cylinder rotates, the pins trip switches to turn the solenoids off and on (essentially the same mechanism as a music box). The creatures scurry around a surface, and make collaborative drawings, in this case, as trails in sand. They can also make permanent drawings via an ink transfer on paper (essentially making a carbon copy, though instead of carbon paper, the overlay is prepared with semi-dry oil paint)
